2021 COACH LEWIS – CROSS COUNTRY / TRACK & FIELD SCHOLARSHIP


The Coach Lewis application is available to students by invitation only; who have been nominated by specific faculty/coaches.


Scholarship History:

The members of the 1974 Lane Tech Illinois State Champion Track and Field team have established a scholarship in memory of their coach William E. Lewis.  Mr. Lewis graduated from Lane Tech in 1953 and after completing his Chemical Engineering degree from Purdue University came back to Lane Tech to teach Chemistry at his alma mater.  Mr. Lewis coached the boys track and cross country teams from 1968 through 1975.  Mr. Lewis was a passionate teacher and coach who through his love of education and sport inspired students and athletes of all abilities.  Established 2020.

Scholarship Award:

$2,000 per awarded recipient as a one-time total award.

This scholarship will be awarded to two (2) graduating seniors, one male athlete and one female athlete.

Criteria/Eligibility:

  1. Lane Tech student with an expected June graduation date.
  2. The scholarship award is based on scholastic ability, academic excellence and financial need.
  3. Acceptance to an accredited college or university.
  4. Minimum unweighted GPA 3.0.
  5. Member of the LT Cross Country or Track and Field team.
