Scholarship History:

Walter Leibfritz was an alum and shop teacher at Lane Tech.  This scholarship was established in honor of his memory.  Upon his passing, Mrs. Patricia Cherry, a neighbor, established this scholarship to be awarded to a student with a passion and enthusiasm for technical classes.  Established 2011.

Scholarship Award:

$1,000 total award to one (1) student.


  1. Lane Tech student with an expected June graduation date.
  2. The scholarship award is based on scholastic ability, academic excellence and financial need.
  3. Demonstrates a passionate interest in the study of Robotics, Engineering and Technology.
  4. Acceptance to an accredited college or university.
