2023 AVES NOMINATION
NOMINATIONS DUE WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15, 2023 5pm
Dear Lane Tech Faculty:
We are pleased to announce that the Lane Tech Alumni Association will again administer the Fred J. Aves Vocational Education Scholarship. We are asking for your help in the selection process for student nominations.
Faculty who teach classes on the AVES approved list may nominate a senior student(s) (1 preferred but up to 3 students maximum) from all the classes they teach.
The AVES Vocational Scholarship application is available to students by invitation only, who have been selected and nominated by specific faculty members as intended by the criteria provided.
Students who are enrolled in the following classes or pursuing similar fields in higher education or vocational specialty: Robotics, Aquaponics, Horticulture, Digital Imaging, Sound Engineering, Music Production, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science including Programming, Cyber Security, Web Development, Artificial Intelligence, and Innovation & Creation Lab.
Fred J. Aves was a lifetime inventor who developed several engineering products and innovations. Aves believed in the importance of vocational education. For most of his life, he made a living by working with his hands, and his philanthropic vision was to support young people with similar aspirations.
After his passing in 1997, the Fred J. Aves Vocational Education Fund was established at the California Community Foundation through Aves’ will. His goal was to give talented students with significant financial need the means to pursue a vocational education.
$40,000 per awarded recipient. This scholarship will be awarded to two (2) graduating seniors at $10,000 each year for four (4) years.
Lane Tech student with an expected June graduation date.
Acceptance to an accredited technical school, trade school, community college or university in pursuit of a vocational education.
Significant financial need, scholastic ability, and above average grades with identified potential.
Enrollment in the following classes or pursuing similar fields in higher education or vocational specialty: Robotics, Aquaponics, Horticulture, Digital Imaging, Sound Engineering, Music Production, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science including Programming, Cyber Security, Web Development, Artificial Intelligence, and Innovation & Creation Lab.
Demonstration of a passionate interest in school and community involvement.
Intent to continue vocational education for the entire length of their (four year) college education. Students may lose eligibility if they abandon their vocational field of study, which is the intention of the AVES Scholarship.
Minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Faculty nomination required.
