On June 15th, track athletes from the classes of 1971-1977 met at Lane Tech to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of their State Championship, including the national record-setting mile relay team of Kern, Klein, Newell and Carr, and to honor Coach William Lewis ’53, who passed away in 2017. Guests included Coach Lewis’ son Ken, who teaches history at Lane, current Lane track coach, Kris Roof, and two senior track athletes.

Planning Committee Chair, Mike Pellikan ’77 shared, “It was great to see everyone, and we were fortunate that the rain held off long enough for us to complete the tour of the campus including the Memorial Garden and Stadium”.

At the end of the event, a scholarship was established and funded in memory of Coach William Lewis for a 2020 Lane Tech senior track athlete… an exceptional way to get to the finish line!
